The real Canada Post addresses

Canada Post's own sites end in:

  • canadapost-postescanada.ca
  • canadapost.ca

Read the address up to the first single slash: it must end with one of these. An extra word, a different ending or a shortened link means it is not Canada Post, however real the page looks. When in doubt, type the address yourself or use the Canada Post app.

What fake Canada Post messages look like

  • Emails saying Canada Post tried to deliver a package, asking you to click a link
  • Texts saying a delivery is on hold for unpaid shipping fees, with a payment link

What Canada Post says

  • Canada Post will never email or text asking for card or banking details, passwords, or payment to release or track a delivery.
  • Real Canada Post texts come only from 272727 or 55555, and only if you signed up.
  • Real links use the domain canadapost-postescanada.ca.

How to report a Canada Post scam

  1. Canada Post says you don't need to report scam messages to it. Instead: Forward spam texts to your phone provider (SPAM on most keypads): text 7726. Or: Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, if you have lost money or details: 1-888-495-8501.
  2. Get the fake site taken down. Scan the link: the report names the company hosting it and the registrar of its domain, with a ready-written message for each.
  3. Put a warning in front of everyone else. Report the link to Google Safe Browsing and Microsoft SmartScreen.
  4. If you lost money or shared details, call your bank first, then report it to the police or your national fraud line. Where to report in your country.
