How to report a phishing site to Network Solutions

To report a phishing or scam site to Network Solutions, email [email protected] or use Network Solutions's newfold digital report abuse form (choose the network solutions brand).

Domain registrar: can suspend the domain name itself.

Network Solutions is a domain registrar owned by Newfold Digital, which calls the Network Solutions Group a set of long-standing brands for domains and online identity. Newfold's Brands page places Network Solutions in the Network Solutions Group, next to Domain.com, Crazy Domains, Vodien, ResellerClub, SnapNames and BigRock.

To check that a scam domain is at Network Solutions, look at the registrar field in WHOIS or RDAP. It should read "Network Solutions, LLC" (IANA ID 2). Domains registered under the Register.com accreditation show as "Register.com - Network Solutions, LLC" (IANA ID 9) and publishes the same abuse contact.

Network Solutions does not run its own abuse form on networksolutions.com. Reports go through Newfold Digital's shared Report Abuse form, which Newfold says covers domain names, websites and systems run by its subsidiaries and brands.

Reporting to Network Solutions, step by step

  1. Confirm in WHOIS or RDAP that Network Solutions, LLC is the registrar of the scam domain.
  2. Open Newfold Digital's Report Abuse form at newfold.com/abuse.
  3. Enter your first name, last name and email, then the scam domain in "Domain with Abuse".
  4. Choose "Phishing" as the Inquiry Type. Newfold describes it as a link disguised as a trustworthy entity to obtain sensitive information. For a fake shop or investment scam, "Fraudulent business scheme" may fit better.
  5. In the required Brand field, pick the brand the domain is registered with (Network Solutions).
  6. Explain the problem in Comments and attach one file if you have evidence. Tick the box confirming your statements are truthful, complete the reCAPTCHA, then click REPORT ABUSE.
  7. If the form does not work for you, the registrar abuse contact that Network Solutions publishes in RDAP is [email protected], phone +1.8777228662.

What Network Solutions asks you to include

  • Newfold's form requires your name, email, the domain, an inquiry type, a brand and comments.
  • You can add one attachment per report, no larger than 1 MB, as a jpg, pdf, doc or txt file. A screenshot of the phishing page, saved as a jpg, fits this limit.
  • Use the Comments box for the full URLs of the scam pages and what they try to collect, since only one file can be attached.
  • Newfold asks you to use the "Domain Protected by Privacy or Statutory Masking" type only when the domain holder's details are unavailable, so do not pick it for a phishing report.

What Network Solutions can do

  • Newfold says it investigates and records every abuse report it receives.
  • Where appropriate, it may act when a breach of its Terms of Service is confirmed.
  • It also says it acts when required to because an activity breaks ICANN or registry policies, which is the rule set that governs Network Solutions domains.
  • Newfold may come back to you to ask for more information about your report.

What Network Solutions cannot do

  • Newfold says the form is only for reporting certain Terms of Service violations. It is not a support channel for Network Solutions customers.
  • Newfold says any response is at its sole discretion, and for privacy reasons it may not be able to give you specific updates.
  • Requests for information about the account holder are a separate "Subpoena Request" type, which Newfold describes as for criminal investigations, subpoenas, court orders, search warrants and preservation requests.

What happens after you report

  • Newfold creates a unique case ID for each report and uses it in any later correspondence with you about it.
  • Keep that case ID if Newfold contacts you for more details.
  • You may not be told what action, if any, was taken on the Network Solutions domain.
