How to report a phishing site to Contabo

How to reach them

Reporting to Contabo, step by step

1. Open the Abuse Complaint Form at contabo.com/en/abuse/. Contabo asks you to use this form only for abuse; other questions go to customer support.
2. For the abuse type, pick "Phishing". The other options include Spamvertising, Malware Distribution and Other.
3. Enter your full name as it appears on your passport or official ID, and your email address. Company name and postal address are optional.
4. List each phishing URL or IP address on its own line. Contabo's form says a report with no valid URL or IP address is closed without action.
5. Describe the evidence: what the page imitates and the steps needed to see the scam content. You can upload screenshots or other files.
6. Type your name as a digital signature to confirm the report is accurate, then submit.

What Contabo asks you to include

• At least one valid URL or IP address of the phishing page, one per line.
• Logs or other evidence, with a detailed description of the abuse and how to view the reported content.
• Optional supporting files such as screenshots.
• Contabo's terms ask for a report that is as complete as possible, and say proper processing cannot be guaranteed otherwise.

What Contabo can do

• Contabo says it can delete the content, block web space packages or servers, or exclude them from access in other appropriate ways.
• Where content is obviously abusive and immediate action appears necessary, Contabo reserves the right to make it inaccessible without delay and tell the customer afterwards.
• Contabo's general terms allow it to terminate a contract without notice for a culpable breach of its terms.
• For a domain registered through Contabo, its domain terms say the domain can be blocked temporarily or deactivated if the content seriously violates the law and the customer does not respond.

What Contabo cannot do

• Contabo's terms say it cannot generally monitor what customers host and cannot itself decide whether content is lawful. It relies on reports like yours.
• Contabo does not have the administration password for a customer's server, so it cannot log in and remove one phishing page while leaving the rest of the server running.
• Contabo can only act on its own servers. If the IP address belongs to another network, report it there instead.

What happens after you report

• Contabo's Trust & Compliance Team reviews each complaint.
• If the report looks justified, Contabo forwards it to its customer and sets a deadline to remove the content or explain why it is lawful. If the customer does not respond, Contabo may block or delete the content.
• The customer can contest Contabo's decision within six months by replying to the notification email, or through a certified out-of-court dispute body or a court.
• Contabo does not say on these pages that it will tell you the outcome.
• After you submit, Contabo's form says it usually deals with reports within a few hours, but some cases may take up to 5 days.
